Summer Festivals and Events in Barcelona 2019

Barcelona is the city that offers its visitors and citizens a huge variety of entertaining activities, especially during the summer season. We have prepared for you the list of festivals and events for any kind of taste or preferences. Hope you will enjoy it and have an incredible summer!

Festival Jardins Pedralbes

The Jardins Pedralbes Festival this year issues its 7th edition. Series of concerts from various artists is located in the beautiful Gardens of Pedralbes Palace just 15 minutes away from Barcelona city center. Enjoy a magical summer night, surrounded by great music, nature and history. This year lineup includes The Beach Boys, LP, Mariah Carey, Woody Allen & The Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band, Joss Stone, Juanes and many more famous stars.

Festival of Sant Joan

The traditional midsummer party of San Juan takes place on the Summer Solstice – the shortest night of the year. The celebration of the night of San Juan in the city of Barcelona is very old, especially with the central presence of the bonfires, because it is a common belief that the flames away and frighten the evil spirits that are dancing during this night. The streets become a terrifying war zone of firecrackers and barking dogs – there are bonfires and fireworks across all over the city, especially the beach. Citizens and tourists gather up there dancing, swimming in the night sea and partying all night long. Special metro and FGC trains run all night.

One of the Europe’s most well-known music festival Sónar continues to bring joy and happiness to anyone, who is into electronic music, contemporary urban art and media technologies. Starting from July 18th 2019 there will be three amazing days divided into two distinct parts – Sónar by Day and by Night. Fairs, conferences, exhibitions, DJs, concerts – festival has different kind of activities for various audiences. There’s also SónarKids with music, worksop sand puppet shows  Unlike some other summer festivals, Sónar is located in the city and easily accessible.

Pride Barcelona

Since 2008 every summer Barcelona hosts the main LGBTI pride celebration in the Mediterranean: PRIDE BCN. For more than a week, the city celebrates an event of both a protesting and a festive nature, reinforcing the commitment of Barcelona with the struggle for the rights and freedoms of the LGTBI collective. Barcelona shows its gay pride in venues all over the city, including talks, demonstrations, parties, concerts, activities for kids and families, and the big parade.
This year’s edition is dedicated to families, the mission is to show the world that LOVE is the only thing that matters.

Sala Montjuïc Outdoor Film Festival

The title of the event says for itself – already well-known open-air activity continue to delight Barcelona’s citizens this summer. A blend of classics and recent independent cinema shown three times a week throughout July and into August, transforms the grassy moat of the castle into an outdoor cinema. Bring a picnic and turn up early for the jazz band. A free bus service runs from Espanya metro from 8.30pm to 9.30pm and after the film.

Festival Cruïlla Barcelona

The Cruïlla music festival for years has grown into the blend of styles and cultures that it is today. The Cruïlla, which means Crossroads (Catalan) gathers up different styles into a great celebration of music, from pop and rock bands alongside electronic acts to the broad spectrum of R&B, and Jamaican and African music.

This year headliners are Black Eyed Peas, Kylie Minouge, Years & Years, Zaz, Garbage and many more.

Doctor Music Festival

Doctor Music Festival will be back in 2019 after a nineteen-year break!

Doctor Music was not only the first to bring internationally renowned tour concerts to Spain, but it was also the first festival in our country to aspire to be compared to such legendary events as the likes of Woodstock, something which was unthinkable in Spain at the end of the 20th century.

Some of these artists were practically unknown before they played at that pioneering edition of Doctor Music Festival. Today they are global super-stars! The list of previous headliners fascinates: David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Blur, Massive Attack, Moby, Beastie Boys, The Verve, Garbage, Deep Purple, Iggy Pop, Pet Shop Boys, Alice Cooper, Rage Against The Machine, Sheryl Crow, Simple Minds and the very first performance of Muse in Spain. The festival is located in Montmeló, which is an hour drive from Barcelona city center.

Doctor Music Festival offers various different Camping, Glamping and Caravanning zones to stay during the event.

BBF Barcelona Beach Festival

The 2019 version of this electronic music festival kicks off in style with a set from the legendary Armin van Buuren. Other DJs spinning are the Swedish duo Steve Aioki, David Guetta, Alesso, DJ Snake, and more. Definitely must-attend event if you are ready to dance on the beach until the sun comes up!

Rock Fest Barcelona 2019

Don’t miss out one of Europe’s top rock and metal music festivals! 4 day heavy rock festival with amazing headliners this year – ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Hammerfall, Children of Bodom, Dee Snider and many more. Large screens, powerful sound, perfect location – what else do you need to rock the world?

The legendary Tomorrowland, one of the most important electronic music festivals in the world, has confirmed that it will return to Barcelona on July 27!

3 Mainstage headliners – Salvatore Ganacci, Lost Frequencies & NERVO – will be broadcasted live on a unique UNITE With Tomorrowland stage on the 27th of July 2019. Special effects are synchronized with the show in Belgium adding value to the global connection. It’s more than just a live-stream, it’s a unique show that allows you to escape reality.
